Cooperative learning environments create students who are intrinsically motivated, intellectually curious, and caring. Through choices and opportunities to run with their interests, students are empowered to take responsibility for their learning. Our hands-on, integrated curriculum provides a strong academic foundation while fostering a true love of learning that carries students into middle school and beyond.
University Cooperative School is organized into two pods – Grades Pre-K – 2 and Grades 3-5. Each pod has its own schedule, traditions, learning spaces, and core teachers. Core teaching teams work with children over three years, developing warm relationships and deep understandings of each child’s needs. Younger students learn from the older, while fifth graders and second graders become leaders in their pods. All-school activities like Friday All-School Sing and Mercado (a culminating Cultural Studies unit event) create multi-age friendships and community.
Our daughter has a passion for school and learning, which is a gift. She is developing great confidence and social skills. And she’s had the opportunity to try a variety of different experiences (academic subjects, activities, sports, outings) over the course of her school career.
